Steps Used to Expertly Clean Oriental and Area Rugs
- Pre-Inspect. The condition of each rug is assessed. First, we look for fading, discoloration, stains, wear, pre-existing damage, color instability and odors. Next, we determine the ability to clean each rug and the appropriate cleaning procedure to be used. (See note below).
- Dusting. Foot traffic and dry soil can act like sandpaper on the fiber. Dust and particulate matter lying deep within the rug are removed using compressed air and specially designed tools. This step is often referred to as “air washing” or “dusting” of the rug. Vacuuming, shaking, or beating of the rugs are not nearly as effective.
Pre-Treat. Spots, spills and stains are treated using the most advanced spotting techniques and chemicals.
- Clean. Traffic and heavily soiled areas are worked on using specially designed equipment. This involves a process of agitating, dissolving, suspending and extracting the ground in soils. (Unfortunately, discoloration due to wear, fading, or chemical reactions not reversible.)
Rinse. This further removes soil and cleaning residue helping to restore the natural feel).
Restore. The nap is combed with special grooming tools.
Dry. The rugs are dried in our climate controlled drying room. Drying time is less then 24 hours.
*NOTE: During step #1, pre-inspection – we may determine that additional steps beyond standard cleaning are necessary to restore your rug to its best possible appearance. Unusually heavily soiled rugs, excessive spotting, by-hand cleaning, deodorization, and situations that require extra labor or materials may require an additional charge.
