Oriental Rug Hand Washing Method
Step 1 – Pre-Inspection: The condition of each rug is assessed. First, we look for fading, discoloration, stains, wear, pre existing damage, color instability and odors. Next, we determine the appropriate cleaning procedure to be used. (See note below)
Step 2 – Dusting: Foot traffic and dry soil can act like sandpaper on the fiber. Dust and particulate matter lying deep within the rug are removed using compressed air and specially designed tools. This step is often referred to as “air washing” or “dusting” of the rug. Vacuuming, shaking, or beating of the rugs are not nearly as effective.
Step 3 – Pre-Treatment: Spots, spills and stains are treated using the most advanced spotting techniques and chemicals.
Step 4 – Cleaning: Traffic and heavily soiled areas are worked on using specially designed equipment. This involves a process of agitating, dissolving, suspending and extracting the ground in soils. (Unfortunately, discoloration due to wear, fading, or chemical reactions not reversible.)
Step 5 – Rinsing: This further removes soil and cleaning residue helping to restore the natural feel.
Step 6 – Restoration: The nap is combed with special grooming tools.
Step 7 – Drying: The rugs are dried in our climate controlled drying room. Drying time is less than 24 hours.
Step 8 – Final Inspection. We maintain the highest quality standards, so our inspection process is thorough. We don’t hesitate to repeat any steps that might be necessary to provide you with the cleanest rug possible. It’s that final touch that means so much.
